Evans Amphitheater, FREE

MUSTARD'S RETREAT, 6-8pm
'Music to cure what ails you' (Michigan Times) is how one writer reviewed the live show of Mustard's Retreat. Thoughtful, humorous, filled with an eclectic blend of stories and songs (original, traditional and by other writers), their joy on stage is infectious. In a folk world so populated by somber songwriters, Ann Arbor's David Tamulevich and Michael Hough are unafraid to spin out smartly goofy parodies, accompanied by guitar, electric bass, dulcimer, harmonica, penny whistle and mandolin. www.flemtam.com
Saturday, July 12
UNDER THE TREE, 12:15-2:15pm
This folk-rock duo featues the impressive guitar technique and multi-instrumental talents of Bill Lestock, which layer Vicki Chew's songwriting and expressive vocals. The diversity of their musical styles can be attributed to the many influences each had while growing up. Bill counts the legends of the 60s, Doc Watson and Clarence White, as his strongest. Vicki credits songwriters with strong lyrical content such as
Joni Mitchell, Elvis Costello and David Dylvian as her inspiration.
WILD CARROT, 2:45-4:45pm
Cincinnati's award-winning Wild Carrot can jump from a 30s standard, to a traditional tune from the 1800s, to an original song, without missing a beat in their eclectic set featuring guitar, mandolin, concertina, bowed psaltery and various other fun things. The duo is fingerstyle guitarist Spencer Funk and the classically trained vocalist Pamela Temple. Their new CD is hope. www.wildcarrot.net
SWAMP BOOGIE QUEENS, 5:15-7:15pm
Fat Fish Blue regulars Marcia 'Swamp' Sindelar (lead vocals, harmonica), Debi James (guitar, vocals), Fran 'Dr. Honey' Friedman (bass guitar, vocals), Wendy Shorts (guitar, vocals), and Marlene D'Amico (drums) will whip up some high-energy blues and R&B.
TERRANCE SIMIEN, 8pm
Terrance Simien is one of the most engaging and talented artists in roots music today. His fusion of contemporary zydeco music combined with his astonishing vocals (he's often compared to Sam Cooke and Aaron Neville) and his audience-interactive performances place him in great demand for his annual Arts Festival concert (his eighth consecutive year!) and many other events all over the country. It's Mardi Gras time in Cleveland Heights so 'Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler!' (Let the Good Times Roll!). www.terrancesimien.com Co-presented by Friends of Cain Park.
